Planning Matters

Planning Law

First I must explain about Planning Law. If an application is to come before the Local Area Committee, by law we as Members must not make up our minds to support or reject an application until we know all the facts about the application, (this means when the planning officer gives the presentation on the evening of the committee).

Therefore I must not pass comments about applications in case they do come before committee. The Government require that the vast majority of planning applications are decided by (delegated to) officers and only large or contentious applications come to committee.

At present we are expecting the Government to make some changes to planning law but in the meantime we must continue to work within the existing guidance.

They have stated that they intend to change the rules which prevent councillors pre-determining planning applications so that we will be able to comment before an application come to committee.

Current news

With the current housing market we are recieving very few applications to build new properties at present. With the difficulty in selling flats which Councillors of all parties have been warning about for some time it looks as if the larger developers might well have finally realised that people prefer to live in houses!

Draper Tools

The company are considering vacating the Hursley Road site and have applied for outline planning permission for mainly residential development on the site.
