Hedge End's Largest Park

The new 15 acre park in the middle of Grange Park, within easy walking distance of Shamblehurst Lane, has proved a big success.

Back in the 1980s, this land was all zoned for potential housing development.  I was pleased to work with other councillors and council staff to negotiate this land, and the new Wellstead School, as part of revised planning arrangements with the new homes being built off White's Way and Wellstead Way. The school is now being extended to meet local need for more school places.

The new park - Hedge End's largest - already includes an extended play area, youth zones, walkways, cycleways, links to the north of Grange Park and areas left in a natural state.  The new lake has already provided a habitat for ducks and birds!

A car park that includes Park and Stride for Wellstead School opened in autumn 2014.
